Ben's Fish

Ben's Fish was founded by Ben Woodcraft 12 years ago. Ben was an inshore fisherman with twenty years experience working on the Essex coast. He saw a gap in the market for top quality seasonal produce and began by selling his own catch to London's top restaurants. The business grew with Ben sourcing more and more fresh products for his London customers.

Inspiration from the local environment

Exterior of Rewsalls Old BarnIn 2006 Ben bought Rewsalls Old Barn a listed traditional Essex Barn. It has been lovingly restored and now houses the business.It can be found in East Mersea on Mersea Island and has fantastic views of the estuary.

Mersea has a thriving fishing industry, with the largest onshore fishing fleet between Lowestoft and Brixham. The main catch being, sole, skate, bass and mullet in summer and herring and cod in winter.

Mersea is also famous for it's native oysters. which are cultivated in the estuary.

Ben's Fish is ideally placed to liase directly with local fishermen, farmers and growers from around the East Coast.
